Borovets is the oldest and most famous ski resort in Bulgaria. Its origins date to the late 19th century when it was known as Chamkoria.

The resort is situated on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain at an altitude of 1350 meters. Surrounded by the Rila national park, the resort enjoys a breathtaking location huddled amongst age-old pine forests. Above the ski resort sits Mount Moussala (2925 m) which is the highest peak on the Balkans. Borovets is located only 72 km from Sofia, 10 km from Samokov and just 126 km from Plovdiv, which makes it the most accessible Bulgarian ski resort.
In winter over 50 km of slopes and 25 km of cross county trails weave through the stunning scenery of the Rila mountains. Skiing and snowboarding is available for all levels with the added feature of several floodlight slopes to allow late night fun on the snow.
In the summer, Borovets offers clean and fresh air, serene centuries-old pine forests, green meadows sprinkled with fragrant flowers and herbs, blue lakes and majestic snow-capped peaks. For nature-lovers, the resort is a favourite vacation spot and starting point of many hiking routes in the Rila Mountains.
And when the sun has gone down, the resort begins to pulse with the numerous lights of the restaurants, bars and nightlife that make Borovets such a fun place.
Among the pleasant experience witnessed by tourist are the Bulgarian folklore-nights, with possible taste of the Bulgarian cuisine and Bulgarian wines. |
